Solve the daily Jumble

The newspaper Jumble hands you a row of scrambled letters and asks you to spell the ordinary word hiding inside. Type those letters here and the solver unscrambles them against a dictionary of 281,649 words, so a puzzle that has you stumped over morning coffee resolves in seconds. It works the same way for the kids' Jumble, the Sunday variant and every syndicated version in between.

Type the scrambled letters

Enter one scrambled word at a time exactly as it is printed — order does not matter, since the solver tries every arrangement. If a letter is unclear, drop in a ? or * as a wildcard and it will fill the gap. Solve each of the puzzle's words in turn, then move on to the cartoon.

The longest word is usually the answer

Each Jumble word has one intended solution that uses all of its letters, so results are sorted with the longest word first. In practice the top row is your answer nearly every time. The shorter words underneath are there for the rare puzzle with more than one valid reading, and for anyone who just enjoys seeing what else the letters can spell.

Cracking the final cartoon answer

Once you have solved the individual words, the Jumble circles certain letters. Gather every circled letter, type them in together, and the solver rearranges them into the pun that completes the cartoon's caption. Because that final answer is often a two-word phrase, our multi-word anagram solver is the perfect companion when the caption clearly needs more than one word.
