Type in a jumble of letters and the unscrambler rearranges them into every real word it can make, searching a dictionary of 281,649 words. Unlike a strict anagram tool, it does not need to use all your letters at once, so a five-letter rack still turns up the twos, threes and fours hiding inside it. Results are grouped by length with the longest words first, and everything runs in the browser so the list updates the moment you stop typing.
Have a blank tile, or a letter you simply cannot read? Type a ? or a * in its place and the solver treats it as a wildcard that can become any letter. You can use more than one — c?t finds words like cat, cot and cut, while two blanks open up far more possibilities. This is the same idea as a Scrabble or Words With Friends blank, so what you see here is exactly what you can lay on the board.
When the results run long, open the filters to trim them fast. You can keep only words that start with or end with chosen letters, set an exact length, or require the word to contain a substring. The Pattern tab lets you fix known positions and leave the rest as ?, which is perfect for crossword grids. The Dictionary menu limits results to the words a given game will actually accept.
Board-game players lean on unscrambling to squeeze the most out of a rack. For point-by-point play, the Scrabble word finder and the Words With Friends solver re-score each result with the right tile values, since the two games count letters differently. The words are the same; only the numbers change.
Unscrambling is just as useful for daily puzzles and everyday writing.
