How the Wordle solver works

Tell the solver what you have learned from your guesses and it narrows the field of possible answers to the words that still fit. It works from the Wordle answer set rather than a giant dictionary of 281,649 words, so every suggestion is a word the game could genuinely choose — not an obscure play you would never see on the daily board.

Enter what you know as a pattern

Use the Pattern tab and give the solver a five-letter pattern, one box per square. Type the green letters where you know them and a ? for every square you have not solved yet — for example ?R?N? keeps only five-letter words with R in the second slot and N in the fourth. Add your grey (absent) and yellow (present but misplaced) letters to the filters and the list tightens further.

No spoilers, just candidates

The solver never tells you today's answer. It only shows the words that remain consistent with the clues you have entered, leaving the final choice to you. That keeps the puzzle fun: you still decide which candidate to guess next, using the letter clues to rule the rest out on your own.

The Wordle dictionary

Wordle draws its solutions from a curated answer list, which is much smaller than a full word list and skips plurals ending in S along with the most obscure entries. Filtering against that answer list is what makes these suggestions realistic. If you want to explore every valid five-letter word instead, use the broader word unscrambler or browse our word lists.

Good starting words

A strong opener tests common letters early. Vowel-heavy choices such as ADIEU uncover vowels fast, while balanced picks like CRANE, SLATE and ROATE combine frequent consonants with useful vowels. Whatever you open with, feed the results back into the Pattern tab and let the solver do the elimination. For more strategy, see our guides.
